About

Ciao! I'm Alessio, an incoming freshman at CMU studying Computer Science and Systems. I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia with an Italian father and Italian-American mother. I like to practice the language when I can.

In high school, I really enjoyed competitive robotics. My team competed together from seventh grade onward, where we qualified for the World Championship! The year was also 2020, and our plans were cancelled due to covid. During our years together, we focused on autonomous path planning, designing robots using custom metal parts, and taught kids computer science fundamentals each summer. In 2024, we qualified for Worlds again and won an award in robot reliability & design!

Between high school and CMU, I took a gap year to focus on robotics and startups. I worked at a couple of cool robotics companies, attended ML/hardware conferences & Hackathons, and traveled around the world. My interests changed rapidly during the year. In February, I started my internship at Modal, where I have focused on runtime engineering and RDMA.

In my free time, I enjoy sailing in Berkeley, playing basketball with friends, and reading from the Penguin Classics list.

My interests center around high-performance networking, classical optimization for systems, and on-policy distillation for RL.

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

The Count of Monte Cristo

Alexandre Dumas

Edmond Dantes, a young sailor engaged to the beautiful Mercédes, loses his fiancée and father after being wrongfully imprisoned for a bonapartist conspiracy. After spending 14 years in prison, he wages revenge on his opportunistic shipmate Danglars, who later assimilates into Parisian high society, and Fernand of Morcef, who marries the misfortunate Mercédes. A great commentary on French aristocracy filled with thrilling adventures and lessons about fate and hope.

Moby Dick by Herman Melville

Moby Dick

Herman Melville

Moby Dick is an American classic centered around the character of Captain Ahab and his trial of revenge against the notorious white whale. Our narrator Ishmael describes the barbaric and sacred practices of the whaling industry, which is quite a feat of scale with manpower. Watch as demonism and diabolism in Ahab's vehement revenge slowly sink him and the ship's crew into peril.
